SONIA KHARITONIOUK
director & cinematographer
Who is she?
Sonia Kharitoniouk is a feminist filmmaker from Minsk, Belarus, currently based in Berlin, Germany, where she's getting a BA in Film Production at Catalyst Institute for Creative Arts and Technology. Fuelled by her love for visual arts and a background in fine arts she started her career as a concert photographer, which later led to a discovery of her passion for cinema.
As a young queer woman coming from a dictatorship, where she was confronted with the reality of censorship and oppression, her work explores themes of identity, religion, systematic abuse,
gender roles and love, drawing from her personal experiences.

With a deep respect for the power of film to inspire change, Sonia carefully tackles tabooed topics and sensitive subjects, creating stories that challenge social norms and promote inclusivity and acceptance. She draws inspiration from great minds such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Agnès Varda and Andrea Arnold and hopes to contribute to the legacy of meaningful and thought-provoking cinema.
